Addiction Research | Zebrafish Used to Develop Addiction Cure (Interesting Video)

This is an interesting video discussing the addiction research being done with zebrafish. It turns out that the fish are an 80% genetic match to humans. That alone is remarkable.

Even more remarkable is the way that the research can be accelerated using fish. What would take months or years with human research subjects, only takes weeks with the fish. The researchers can introduce the addictive substance and observe their behavior changes as the fish quickly become addicted. Then, they provide whatever treatment they’re testing, and again, can quickly see the results.

We are getting closer to finding effective treatment options for all types of addiction. The addiction research is providing the information we need to understand addiction and, more importantly, how to deal with it.
